Paper Airplanes

Wooden Leg

A prosthetic leg made in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and used by Frank McElroy Bemis of Saint Cloud, who lost his leg through complications from polio at age three. This leg was made for him when he was about 15 so that he could attend high school at Saint Thomas Academy, circa 1913.

Hand Carved Ring

Monday, October 24th, 2016

A women’s finger ring carved out of briar root. The ring was found in Georgia by Dr. George L. Gates of the 2nd Minnesota Infantry Regiment, Company A during the Civil War. Click on the below collections database link to see the other five rings in this group.

Hmong Wall Hanging

A piece of Hmong pa ndau (paj ntaub) textile art. Designs include cucumber seeds and steps with additional decorations of white and purple diamonds appliqués and orange and white embroidery. Made or provided by Doua Lee. Sold at Hmong Handwork, Saint Paul, Minnesota in the late 1980s.
