'Joke' bowl by Warren MacKenzie

This February 16th, one of Minnesota’s most distinguished artists, Warren MacKenzie turned 90 years old. He is well known for his beautiful yet utilitarian ceramics as well as bringing Asian pottery influences back to Minnesota while teaching at the U of M.

This “joke” bowl in the collections of the Minnesota Historical Society was made by MacKenzie in 1996 and is decorated with what is called a Shino glaze.

For details on this bowl, view it in our collections database.
