Willcox & Gibbs sewing machine with cover

Noiseless Automatic Sewing Machine designed by by the Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Company in 1871. The treadle and gears run smoothly on this chain stitch sewing machine. The machine is mounted on a wooden table with an iron base and a foot treadle; a hinged wooden box covers the machine. This machine was owned by the family of Frederick Spangenberg, a German immigrant whose 80 acre farm would later become the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul.

That’s a beautiful old machine. I will have to get my hands on a vintage machine soon. For now I will have to do with my modern version.
