This month marks the 75th anniversary of the Civilian Conservation Corps, established March 31, 1933. Curator Matt Anderson commemorates the occasion with a look at CCC pieces in the Minnesota Historical Society’s collection. (4 min. 32 sec. / 11.7 MB)

The CCC is a focus of the Minnesota’s Greatest Generation project. Visit MGG’s In Their Words site to read accounts from CCC participants.     Mr. Anderson does fine work again condensing the history of the CCC through the MNHS collection lens. The description of the logging objects painted a nice image of how these tools were used and I wish there was historic footage available to accompany this section.

    Going through family history and discovered 15 photos taken by my grandfather, Gardner Reynolds, at Camp Rutledge, LaPorte, Minnesota in 1933. He was the doctor at the camp and I believe at some point my grandmother and father, then aged 6 lived there also. I’d be glad to share the e-pictures with you.
