Well, they may not be the Grammy Awards, but the announcement this past weekend of the finalists for the Minnesota Book Awards is cause for celebration for Borealis Books and Minnesota Historical Society Press and our authors! Five of our titles made the finalist list:

Winners will be announced at the Minnesota Book Awards Gala on April 17, presented by the Friends of the St. Paul Public Library.

Renowned Minnesota playwright and storyteller Kevin Kling will be reading from and discussing his new book Kevin Kling’s Holiday Inn at the Minneapolis Central Library on 11/12. The doors open at 6:15, and the show starts at 7:00. And it’s free! Seating is first come, first served.

Northern Lights/Southern Cross: Tales from the Other Side of the Worldopens this weekend at the Guthrie Theater’s Dowling Studio. MinnPost describes the piece as a “cosmic collaboration between artists from the United States and Australia.” Both the play and Kevin’s book The Dog Says How relate his experiences surviving a near-fatal motorcycle accident. The Pioneer Press also reviewed the show.

Kevin’s newest collection of stories, Kevin Kling’s Holiday Inn, is in stores now. He’ll share stories from the book at the Minneapolis Central Library’s Talk of the Stacks on November 12 and at Common Good Books on November 17.

Kevin Kling’s new play “Flight” is being performed tonight through Monday at the Open Eye theater in South Minneapolis. The play received a wonderful review from Dominic Paptola, Twin Cities theater critic in today’s St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Kevin Kling, storyteller and playwright, is also the author of two MHS Press books–The Dog Says How and Kevin Kling’s Holiday Inn, which will be available this November at a fine bookseller near you.

This November, the Minnesota Historical Society Press will be publishing Kevin Kling’s Holiday Inn—a collection of funny and heart-warming stories by the master storyteller.
